Here is a pastry to serve for the Holidays or to offer as a host gift. You can bake them 4 to 5 days before Christmas.
Yield: 16 squares
Set a rack in center of the oven. Preheat oven at 375 °F (190 °C). Grease a 9 inches (23 cm ) square cake pan.
Melt butter in a medium saucepan and mix in cocoa.
Add sugar, eggs and vanilla and beat well.
Add flour, baking powder and salt and beat until just blended with almost no trace of flour.
In a medium bowl, beat cream cheese and sugar. Add egg and vanilla and beat until well blended.
Spread half of he chocolate batter inthe pan and pour cream cheese mixture on cake batter. Spoon remaining cake batter on top of cream cheese layer.
Bake 30 to 40 minutes until a toothpick inserted in center comes out with very few crumbs. For more time : 5minutes .
Cool completely before cutting in bars.
